June Allen, an 18-year-old from Van Nuys, Los Angeles, finds herself unexpectedly thrust into a mystery when her mother, Grace, and Grace’s boyfriend, Kevin, fail to return from their vacation in Cartagena, Colombia. June, who often feels frustrated by her mother's overbearing tendencies, initially spends the week of Grace's absence indulging in carefree activities. However, her concern escalates when neither her mother nor Kevin arrives at Los Angeles International Airport as planned. Upon investigating further, June discovers that their luggage never left the hotel in Cartagena. With limited assistance from the FBI attaché at the American consulate, June takes matters into her own hands. She enlists the help of Javier, a resourceful Colombian gig worker, who agrees to assist her for a modest fee. Determined to uncover the truth, June begins piecing together clues in an effort to locate her mother and unravel the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.
