Brodie Torrance, a skilled commercial pilot and former RAF officer from Scotland, is tasked with flying Trailblazer Airlines Flight 119 from Singapore to Honolulu, with a stopover in Tokyo. Onboard are 14 passengers, including Louis Gaspare, a fugitive homicide suspect being extradited to Canada under the supervision of a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer. Despite warnings of severe weather over the South China Sea, Brodie follows instructions from his superiors to proceed on the planned route. The aircraft encounters extreme turbulence, resulting in a lightning strike that disables its avionics. Tragically, the RCMP officer and a flight attendant lose their lives during the incident. In a critical situation, Brodie and his co-pilot, Samuel Dele, execute an emergency landing on a remote airstrip located on Jolo island in the southern Philippines.
