Mengju, accompanied by her adult children Sew, Kiang, and Soei, along with her grandson M, gathered to observe the Qingming Festival, a traditional occasion for honoring ancestors. During the gathering, Mengju expressed her desire for a large burial plot, despite its exorbitant cost. Shortly thereafter, she suffered a fall and was hospitalized, where she was diagnosed with late-stage colorectal cancer and given a prognosis of one year. Her family chose to withhold the diagnosis from her, likely to spare her emotional distress. Meanwhile, M, a university dropout aspiring to establish himself as a video game streamer, experienced a shift in his circumstances following the death of his wealthy paternal grandfather. Most of the grandfather's estate was bequeathed to Mui, M's cousin and primary caregiver, who also works as an online sex worker. Motivated by potential financial gain, M volunteered to become Mengju's caregiver, seemingly with the intention of inheriting her estate. This sequence of events highlights complex family dynamics and varying motivations amidst Mengju's declining health and the broader implications of inheritance within the family.
