In London, gangster George Thomason orchestrates a jewel heist with his trusted associate Ken Pile, a stuttering animal enthusiast. To execute the plan, they enlist two Americans: Wanda Gershwitz, a skilled con artist, and Otto West, a volatile weapons expert with a disdain for British culture. To manipulate George and Ken, Wanda and Otto pose as siblings, concealing their romantic relationship. The heist is successful, and the team secures a substantial cache of diamonds, which they hide. However, Wanda and Otto betray George, leading to his arrest. When they return for the diamonds, they discover George had anticipated betrayal and relocated them to a safe deposit box, entrusting Ken with the key. Wanda observes Ken hiding the key in his fish tank, retrieves it, and discreetly stores it in her locket, setting the stage for further deception.
