A meteorite crashes near Arborville, California, leading to the discovery of a strange, gelatinous substance by an elderly vagabond. The material, resembling a slime mold, adheres to his hand and begins to exhibit dangerous properties. High school students Paul, Meg, and Brian intervene, taking the man to a hospital for treatment. However, events take a horrifying turn as Paul witnesses the Blob dissolving the lower half of the man's body. While attempting to call for assistance, the Blob aggressively engulfs Paul, leaving Meg to return and witness her friend being consumed entirely by the rapidly growing organism. The Blob then escapes the hospital, leaving destruction in its wake and setting the stage for further chaos.
