In July 1957, a meteorite crash disrupts the tranquility of a small Pennsylvania town. Teenagers Steve Andrews and Jane Martin, while enjoying a quiet moment at a lovers' lane, witness the extraordinary event and decide to investigate. However, Barney, an elderly local resident, discovers the meteorite first. Upon prodding it with a stick, the object splits open, releasing a jelly-like substance that adheres to his hand. Unable to remove the mysterious blob despite his efforts, Barney experiences severe pain and stumbles onto the road, narrowly avoiding an accident with Steve's car. Concerned for his well-being, Steve and Jane promptly escort Barney to Doctor Hallen for medical assistance.
