One year after the enactment of Prohibition, the social and economic dynamics of the United States underwent significant changes. The prohibition of alcohol created a lucrative opportunity for illegal trade, attracting numerous organized crime figures in Chicago. Prominent gangsters such as Dean O'Banion, George "Bugs" Moran, and Earl "Hymie" Weiss competed fiercely to dominate the illicit liquor market. However, Big Jim Colosimo, due to his advanced age and comfortable lifestyle, showed little interest in pursuing this profitable enterprise. Recognizing the potential of the situation, Al Capone persuaded Johnny Torrio to orchestrate Colosimo's assassination, clearing the path for Torrio to assume control as Chicago's preeminent mob leader. This strategic move marked a pivotal moment in the city's criminal underworld, setting the stage for a new era of organized crime fueled by the prohibition of alcohol.
