Steve Thompson, a man seeking solace after a turbulent divorce, returns to Los Angeles following two years of aimless wandering. Determined to reconnect with his ex-wife Anna, despite lingering doubts, he resumes his position as a driver for an armored-truck company. However, Anna has since married Slim Dundee, a mobster, though she secretly rekindles her relationship with Steve. Their affair is discovered by Dundee, leading to a tense confrontation. In an attempt to salvage the situation, Steve becomes entangled in Dundee's plan for an armored-truck heist. The operation descends into chaos, culminating in the tragic death of Steve's elderly partner, a trusted family friend who was meant to be spared. Overcome with anger and guilt, Steve turns against Dundee during the heist, resulting in a violent exchange of gunfire that leaves both men wounded. The ill-fated robbery underscores the perilous consequences of betrayal, desperation, and unresolved emotions.
