The story follows the Torrance family as they move into the remote Overlook Hotel during the winter season. Jack Torrance, hired as the hotel's winter caretaker, plans to use the isolation to complete his novel. However, as time progresses, the hotel's sinister and supernatural forces begin to reveal themselves. These phenomena are particularly evident when Danny, Jack's son, utilizes his psychic "shining" ability to uncover the hotel's dark and horrifying history.
