Richa, a well-educated dancer, enters into an arranged marriage with Diwakar, a doctor from a deeply traditional and patriarchal family. Initially, her married life begins with the joy and novelty of a new relationship, but the dynamics within the household quickly reveal their challenges. The division of responsibilities is starkly gendered, with domestic chores such as cleaning, cooking, and managing household inconveniences falling solely on the women. Meanwhile, the men focus on leisure activities like yoga or scrolling through their phones. The patriarchal attitudes are deeply ingrained, exemplified by the mother-in-law's subservient gestures, such as handing the toothbrush to her husband while he relaxes. Mealtime routines further highlight the disparity, as men eat first and leave the dining area untidy, disregarding how it impacts the women who eat afterward. Richa initially tries to adapt to these expectations, taking on the burdens of the kitchen and household. However, when her mother-in-law is unexpectedly required to leave for some time, Richa finds herself facing even greater challenges. The absence of her mother-in-law exposes deeper issues within the family dynamic, leaving Richa to navigate an increasingly demanding and inequitable environment on her own.
